A Century-Old Ring, Reborn
I wanted to bring some attention to the kind of work I love so much, restoring meaningful heirlooms that carry generations of memory. This project was especially noteworthy, and I wanted to share the story with you.
This platinum ring had lived a long life, passed down through generations, worn with love, and weathered by time. When it arrived in my studio, the larger diamonds had already been shared among family members, leaving only the original setting and a few accent stones.
My client, the ring’s current keeper, wanted to honor it’s history while making it her own. We chose garnets to replace the diamonds- not only for their warmth and richness, but because garnet is her birthstone. A quiet yet powerful way to claim this heirloom as part of her story.
Restoration began with removing all remaining stones and carefully eliminating the old white gold solder, a method once used to repair platinum before modern laser technology. From there, I rebuilt the prongs and galleries in solid platinum, selected and set new garnets, reset the original accent diamonds, and sized the ring to fit her hand perfectly.
This ring has been given new life, one I hope will last another 100 years. It’s a beautiful reminder that heirloom jewelry doesn’t just preserve the past, it carries us forward, keeping the memory of our loved ones close.
